4 Tips to Write or to Publish Your First Book!

Hey there, DETECTIVES! DETECTIVE WRITER To tell you all about how to start your own book to get it published quicker than you think in 4 simplified steps. Trust me, it really is. A few of you have asked me how to get started so let’s begin, DETECTIVES.

  1. First, get an idea and start drafting. Even if you aren’t sure, I promise you, if you write, “I don’t know” or “IDK” over and over again, something WILL come out.
  2. If you can go the traditional route and find a publisher. Begin writing a query letter and this site has great tips to impress literary agents.
  3. If you choose to self-publish, you can use my publisher, New Degree Press as an example: all of the royalties will be yours, it’s a bit pricey but I promise you, the benefits are worth it.
  4. Trust in your journey: no one’s process is better or worse, right or wrong, you WILL succeed and become an author.

I hope these tips are a great starter for you, DETECTIVES! Stay tuned for next week’s post and until then, keep on sleuthing, DETECTIVES!

5 Tips to Begin Your Own Podcast!

Hey there, DETECTIVES! DETECTIVE WRITER To tell you all about how to start your own podcast for those who are curious, have asked where to begin, or just want to learn, this post is for you!

  1. Be sure to have an idea of what you want to talk about. (NOTE: can be more than 1 topic or multiple podcasts if you wish). If you aren’t sure of a topic, you can draft or make an outline.
  2. Think about your audience: for example, do you want your listeners to be more true crime lovers, early 20s, recent college grads, or maybe just a general audience?
  3. For your platform: you can have it be YouTube, the Anchor app, Spotify, etc – I would suggest choosing Anchor because it’s completely free, gives you a great start, and you can see your data analytics (who listens when, where, how).
  4. This is mainly a personal tip: but if any of you have questioned whether or not you would succeed if people will want to hear your voice, remember it is YOUR podcast – YOU move the reins.
  5. HAVE FUN! Feel free to send me your podcast link and I will be happy to share it on mine

I hope these tips are a great starter for you, DETECTIVES! Stay tuned for next week’s post and until then, keep on sleuthing, DETECTIVES!

Murder Mystery Storytime: The 1920 Wall Street Bombing!

Hey there, DETECTIVES! DETECTIVE WRITER here to tell you all about another unsolved crime that happened in New York City, but occurred over a century ago, the 1920 Wall Street Bombing.

On September 16th, 1920 at 12:01 P.M. EST, in the Financial District in Manhattan, Wall Street of New York City had been bombed. A horse-drawn wagon had stopped by at noon across the street from the headquarters of J.P. Morgan & Co. bank at 23 Wall Street. The wagon had 500 pounds of sash weights, and 100 pounds of dynamite inside that exploded due to a set timer detonation. The sash weights tore through the air, the wagon was blasted and the horse was killed in small remains. But the crazy thing is that witnesses saw the wagon driver leaving the scene and escaping through a side street of the city.

143 people were seriously injured, and 30 people were immediately killed with an additional number of 10 people soon dying from wounds sustained from the bombing. Due to the blast, over US$2 million ($27.1 million today) was lost in property damages with quite a bit of the interior spaces in the J.P. Morgan & Co. building also being destroyed.

The next day, September 17th, 1920, the Justice Department’s Bureau of Investigation presented the contents of a flyer that was discovered in a post office box on Wall Street right before the bombing occurred. On a piece of white paper, written in red ink, the words said “Remember, we will not tolerate any longer. Free the political prisoners, or it will be sure death for all of you.” The words on the bottom of the flyer were: “American Anarchist Fighters.” Although, the city’s local police and BOI tried to figure out the culprit(s) of the bombing, the motive, and who was the driver of the wagon for three years, unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. To this day, this case remains unsolved. Also, the spooky aspect that I can confirm is that even over a century later, on 23 Wall Street, you can still see the damage left behind by the bombing, it is absolutely mindblowing. *This is NOT my image, PSA).

Murder Mystery Storytime: The Disappearance of Diana Lynn Harris!

Hey there, DETECTIVES! DETECTIVE WRITER is here to tell you about an unsolved crime in the United States, specifically in Florida, the case of Diana Lynn Harris.

Now, this case was specifically requested of me to discuss by a fellow DETECTIVE who actually was affiliated with the subject in the case and it is my honor to help bring this investigation to light.

Diana Lynn Harris, a mother originally from Michigan who moved to Florida in 1980 was last seen in Big Pine Key in Monroe County, Florida in 1981. Harris’s children had flown to Michigan to spend time with their dad on June 7th, 1981. Her daughter heard her voice for the final time on June 15th, 1981. Harris was supposed to go pick up her kids from their father’s on August 15th to attend her sister’s wedding but she never showed. When she didn’t go to her sister’s wedding, her mother reported her missing, and all of her belongings were left behind. Around the time of her disappearance, she had been working 2 jobs and had a boyfriend named Gary Argenzio. The couple was living in a home that was viewed as a “Party house,” since it was owned by a drug deal lawyer named Mitchell Denker and a man named Mark Ripin.

All 3 men were considered suspects in Harris’ disappearance due to the fact that both Ripin and Argenzio were ex-cons and close friends and Argenzio had been the one to introduce Harris to hard drugs. The “Party house” they were living in had a reputation for causing people who were at that address to lose their jobs because of whatever went down inside that place.

According to Harris’ daughter, Christine Hill, Denker admitted to her that after her mother’s disappearance, Argenzio went to Mexico, stealing a possible gun and 2 of his own motorcycles. Whereas, Ripin had told Hill that he and Denker had both dual ownership of a boat that they gave Argenzio to use, but he had no oil nor motor for the boat. Both Denker and Ripin told investigators that Harris’ own boyfriend, Gary Argenzio had admitted to killing Harris but had different stories as to where he may have killed her but police could not find damage in the house.

Consequently, a man named Thomas Stump also went missing from his home in Monroe County, Florida in 1995 and both Denker and Ripin were considered the prime suspects although neither man was charged in either case. Both investigations remain unsolved to this day.

Spooky + Mysterious Aspects of Life

Hey there, DETECTIVES! DETECTIVE WRITER to introduce you all to a fascinating topic regarding the Voynich Manuscript.

The Voynich Manuscript is a handwritten codex, basically the ancestor of modern books, and is in an unknown language by an unknown author(s). Instead of paper for a codex, other materials were used as sheets such as papyrus, etc. The manuscript is also referred to as “Voynichese.” It has over 240 pages, but evidence presents that some pages are missing, a few pages have various illustrations/drawings/diagrams that show images of people, plants, symbols, and more. A few pages also have several words in Latin but much of the script remains unreadable.

In 1912, book dealer Wilfrid Voynich purchased it and the manuscript was later named after him. Since 1969, the manuscript has been held in Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University. In 2020, the digital collections library from the university officially published the entire manuscript of 225 pages which is available through this link.

Spooky + Mysterious Aspects of Life

Hey there, DETECTIVES! DETECTIVE WRITER to introduce you all to an interesting topic regarding the case of Noela Rukundo.

Noela Rukundo is a Burundian-Australian woman who in February 2015, actually crashed her own funeral. Rukundo married a man named Balenga Kalala, a Congolese forklift operator back in 2004, soon after immigrating to Australia from Burundi with five kids at the time. Kalala had fled as a refugee to escape from a rebel army that had murdered his child and wife when he was 24 years old. The couple had met through the same social worker at an agency they both went to and eventually began a relationship. After they married, they had three children together.

Several years into their marriage, Kalala began to suspect his wife was cheating on him, that on January 21st, 2015, while his wife was in Bujumbura for her stepmom’s funeral, after speaking on the phone, Kalala told his wife to go outside for fresh air. When she exited her hotel, several men immediately kidnapped her at gunpoint and taken to a warehouse. One of the men had revealed to her that her own husband had ordered them to kill her but they would not because they knew her brother and would not kill women and children. At first, she could not believe it until the kidnappers called her husband and he told them to kill her, which made her faint. The men told her husband on the phone that they would kill her but for an extra $3,400 charge. Rukundo’s brother soon called her and Rukundo also sent her brother $545 he requested to send to the police to investigate her case. She was released on February 19th, 2015. She was given 80 hours to leave the country safely.

Rukundo’s husband Kalala had prepared a funeral in Melbourne, Australia not knowing his wife had help from a pastor and Kenyan and Belgian embassies to return. She returned to Melbourne on February 22nd, 2015, and went back to her house the moment she stepped out of her car, her husband was scared and asked himself if he saw a ghost. Her response to his shocked expression was, “Surprise! I’m still alive.” When he realized his wife was still alive, he began begging for forgiveness while she called the police on him. He was eventually arrested and charged by a court in Melbourne to nine years in prison. In 2022, he was eligible for parole. Rukundo has stated that she has forgiven Kalala and has no ill will or grudge toward him. She said, “From my heart, I forgive him, let God judge him.”
